Alfie Boe Has Hope that Hugh Will Be a “Wonderful” Valjean

Alfie Boe – who performed as Jean Valjean in the London West End and at the O2 Arena – was once considered to take on the same role in Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables. In fact, producer Cameron Mackintosh even endorsed the Operatic tenor to take the job. Although the role ultimately went to Hugh Jackman, Alfie seems to have no soreness over the choice; in fact, in a new article from The Hollywood Reporter, he sings Hugh’s praises and offers hope that he’ll do “a wonderful job.” Check out the full quote below:

“I think Hugh Jackman will do a wonderful job, I have to say. I wish I could have been a part of it. I really do wish I had had the opportunit to take part. But I think Hugh will do a wonderful job. I wish him the best of luck. It’s a wonderful character to play and the beauty of Jean Valjean is people bring something new to it, everyone who plays the character, brings something new to it. So he will bring something new to the role that I didn’t.”

“He’s a great singer, a great actor,” he adds, joking, “obviously, I’ve got a better body that he does.”
